It’s going to become increasingly important for dealerships to pay attention to whom they are marketing and how. In late 2011 or early 2012 the Government of Canada is expected to begin to enforce Bill C-28, the Fighting Internet and Wireless Spam bill (FISA), which passed on December 15, 2010.
Although the bill is designed to deter the worst forms of spam such as identify theft, phishing and spyware, all businesses sending mass marketing email or telephone campaigns need to have expressed or implied consent from recipients.
What does this mean? It means dealerships must be sure it’s ok to electronically contact an individual before they do so.
ONE-EIGHTY provides a seamless process all within one system to help dealerships operate within compliance. One can easily confirm an individual’s consent to be contacted, prevent contacting all together or just block out certain forms of contact such as phone calls at work. These consent choices are logged as well as linked to the ONE-EIGHTY marketing tool, The Magnet, ensuring dealerships are respecting their customer’s wishes and contacting them in ways they most appreciate or not at all.
Make sure your dealership is Bill C-28 compliant by seeking legal counsel. For more information visit the Government of Canada website.
