We are accepting nominations starting today and will announce the 5 selected dealerships on May 31^st, 2012. The lucky 5 selected dealerships will then receive training and access to Mobile Showroom on June 4^th, 2012.

The chosen candidates will be expected to try out and give feedback on how they engage their customers with this new Mobile Showroom feature.

Our testers presented their rankings of each tablet to a panel of four judges who also weighed in on the scoring by ranking each tablet overall on a scale of 1 to 10 to reach a final score out of 90.

The Results

Here are the final scores after adding the Tablet Testers and Judges scores.  If you are one of the lucky winners of a tablet for participating in our 10^th Anniversary Contest, we hope you will find these results helpful in deciding which tablet you’d like!

Here are some additional points our presenters mentioned.

Brock, Sales & Leasing Consultant at Budds’ Subaru loved how easy the Sony Tablet S was too handle. It is designed to be shaped like a folded magazine so it’s extremely easy to carry around with one hand. He also commented on the anti-glare screen as being a major plus.

Dave, Sales & Leasing Consultant at Victoria BMW felt the iPad was a little bulky and wasn’t easy to carry around the lot. However, he loved the size of the keyboard and ease of typing as well as the amount of apps available for download. He did comment however, that the PlayBook came with a lot more features out of the box.

Natasha, Sales Manager at MINI Durham liked the size of the PlayBook for carrying around in her purse, but said it was too small and difficult to type. She likes having it synced to her BlackBerry but ultimately finds that the iPad is more effective for her day to day job of entering information because the ease of typing is much better.

Willem, Sales Consultant at OWASCO RV felt that the Toshiba WIN 7 tablet was not a very useful tool. The glare on the screen made it often unusable and the screen size was difficult to adjust and didn’t have many adjustment options. He comments that when you want to use the keyboard it appears over what you’re working/browsing so you cannot always see what you are typing. The cursor also disappears when you select the keyboard which Willem found to be very frustrating.  He did mention that the Toshiba support team was helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Zane, Sales & Leasing Consultant at Victoria Star Motors, who was once an Apple Sales Rep, was very much impressed with the Samsung Galaxy tablet. He liked the layout of the applications and that you could choose the design and layout of your screen. He also liked the zoom in and out features and the ease of typing. He had a hard time getting to the correct person when trying to reach support so found that frustrating.

ONE-EIGHTY would like to thank each of our Testers for taking the time to provide such thorough information about the tablets. Each took on the task of evaluating the tablets very seriously and did a phenomenal job of providing us with their pros and cons.

Natasha, Sales Manager at Endras BMW, is testing the BlackBerry PlayBook which she’s synced with her BlackBerry. At home, Natasha uses the iPad so is able to compare the two. Here’s what she had to say:
“Once I got my 14 years old to give me a tutorial on the Playbook I was fine.  I took me a bit to get it started/initialized.

I love the size, fits perfectly in my purse unlike the iPad.  I love the bridge feature so my calendar is linked.  The screen resolution is also superb.

I’ve played with the current mobile ONE-EIGHTY site and can’t wait to test the increased functionality.

Brock, Sales & Leasing Consultant from Budds’ Subaru is testing out the Sony Tablet S and so far seems impressed! Here’s his initial feedback:

“I have been working with the Sony Tablet S for a couple days now. My first impression is that the design of the tablet is great as it is easy to hold while entering customer information. I look forward to using it more and learning what mobile (Showroom) ONE-EIGHTY will allow me to do.

Willem from OWASCO RV is trying out the Toshiba WIN 7 Tablet. Here are his likes and dislikes with the Tablet so far:

• I can Access the whole 180 program because it is a computer.
• Comes with MS Office Suite
• Good supportI am a disappointed though with performance:

• During the day the tablet is hard to see in our glass showroom, in fact on a sunny day impossible to see.
• Font size cannot be increased at all for older users
• Speed is disappointing. I usually work with aniPadand it is quick and responsive, this unit takes a while to wake up and get started on the programs I am requesting.
• On screen keyboard blocks what you are writing, is hard to move around and unresponsive when typing. I hooked a Bluetooth keyboard from my computer at home to it and this seems to be the only way one can type.
• Touch-screen is unresponsive. You need to double tap applications to get them started
• I hooked a wireless mouse to the unit in order to make it work easier.

Overall disappointed with the machine for the $$ I would buy a laptop as this is basically a Laptop running windows with a touch screen not a real tablet.”

Dave is a Sales & Leasing Consultant at Victoria BMW. He’s already familiar with the BlackBerry PlayBook which he has synced to his BlackBerry Torch. Here are his thoughts on testing out the iPad thus far:

“The main highlights – great graphics, phenomenal keyboard/touch-screen typing, good wireless network range. I was a little disappointed by the lack of abilities to capture video downloads and the need for additional apps to get up to functionality (The BB Playbook I already have came much more functional out of the box)

Overall, now that I have loaded more programs and apps the functionality is superb.Handling the unit was definitely more awkward due to its slippery finish (fixed this with a folding cover). As a BMW affectionate, I was surprised at how many interesting Apps there are published by BMW. I have a full selection of those loaded and have also loaded several demonstrational videos with the idea of using them when working with clients.”

Zane is a Sales and Leasing Representative at Victoria Star Motors. He’s been testing the Samsung Galaxy for the past week and sent us these comments:

“I love the fact that it can be completely customized. Much lighter than the iPad, and has incredibly accurate voice commands. Also, the battery seems to last much longer than on the iPad.”

Arianna discussed social media and the role it has played in revolutionizing the communications landscape.  She said that we have been viral junkies not caring what went viral but just that it did. She feels that is changing.

The internet has “grown up” now she said. Online searching is no longer indiscriminate but has become a search for meaning forming communities joined by passions.

The Huffington Post supports brands that are socially responsible such as Johnson and Johnson’s support of Global Motherhood. Arianna sees technology helping to change the world by finding and targeting needs with solutions through communities who care and take action.

The Huff Post tries to focus on the positive news available by featuring a Good News section.

Arianna says she was delighted to be in RIM country and loves the energy of the Communitech start up environment in the Kitchener-Waterloo region being one who started her startup company late in life.

She proudly showed the audience her four different Blackberry’s, all on different carriers so she is never without a connection! She Tweets from her Blackberry’s to close to a million followers from @ariannahuff.

Each tablet tester will be:

• Sent 1 of 5 tablets on the market to evaluate and rank it in a number of categories

• Allowed to keep the tablet they evaluate

• One of the first five ONE-EIGHTY users to have access ONE-EIGHTY’s new “Mobile Showroom” functionality soon to be released!

Testers must provide a photo for our Facebook and website pages by April 13^thand be available to come to ONE-EIGHTY’s Head Office in Waterloo on May 1^st, 2012 from 7-9pm to present their tablet evaluations to a panel of judges from the automotive industry. (If you can’t make it to Head Office on May 1^st but can provide a webcam solution to be able to show us your findings we’re open to that option.)
